Exa is building a search engine for the AI era. Our Search API currently powers Agents, Fortune 500s and AI labs as we transform an industry that hasn’t been disrupted since the 90s. We're a largely SF-based team of ~100 from Harvard, MIT, Meta, Google Research, ex-founders & dropouts alike.
We are rapidly building the most intelligent search engine in history. We’re high agency, low-ego, and united by the feeling that this is one of the last problems worth getting right.
Our researchers train, embed, and serve our own large-scale search index. Our engineers are shipping upgrades and new features to our API product every day. Many people know Exa, but few have seen the best that the product can produce.
That's where you come in.
On the Growth Engineering team, you’ll live in Claude Code and ship things that help us get customers: launch strategies, ads systems, landing pages, SEO pipelines, viral tools, automated outbound. Exa's product itself can be used a growth tool. You'll use our own API to generate targeting lists, research accounts, and build infrastructure nobody else in the industry can replicate.
This could look like:
Building new paid acquisition systems from scratch and decide where we allocate budget.
Shipping well-designed pages optimized for SEO & AEO, that drive actual pipeline.
Making something that goes viral in a developer community over a weekend.
Turning a working experiment into a system that runs without anyone touching it.
This role looks different depending on your strengths:
Data-driven: You see a target account list and figure out how to measurably put Exa in front of every one of them. Focused on paid channels, attribution, and CAC.
Creative: You build things that spread. To understand our customer, you’re probably chronically online and find guerilla marketing tactics to reach them.
Infrastructure: You turn experiments into systems and make the whole team faster. You were likely a full-time SWE before this.
You're a fit if:
You're a hacker at heart. You see arbitrage everywhere, and will find a creative way to win.
You've been a marketer who taught themselves to code, an engineer who couldn't stop thinking about distribution, or something else entirely that doesn't fit any existing title.
You're the kind of person who sees a growth problem and has three ideas before anyone finishes describing it.
